Dyslexia Explored Podcast #31 Show Notes.
The Dyslexic Advantage CHAPTER 5 Review.
Chapter 5: The 'M' Strengths in M.I.N.D.
Join us on the journey as we read it, map it, review it and draw out practical applications from the perspective of life and study skills for children facing High School. It may turn into a book review/book club over time! We will take a chapter per podcast episode and incorporate your questions and comments too. This book is a treasure trove of 26 chapters packed with helpful information for parents and tutors. I’m recording these episodes for people to listen on the go via our podcast. We will also Facebook Live the episodes as they are being recorded.
This is the format of each episode:
1. Summary of the chapter (3 minutes)
2. Favorite quotes (5 minutes)
3. Expand a theme or two (5 minutes)
4. Reflect on what I’ve learnt and experienced from the chapter.
5. Practical applications for parents and tutors of teens.
This episode does a quick overview of chapter 5 of us dyslexic advantage and it also has my top five quotes from it with some thoughts and reflections on it.
3-D thinking or material reasoning are really useful skills in the real world and often aren’t tested in school. This short chapter summarizes what that is, what jobs they are really useful for and some of the practical impacts of it.

In addition to the interviews that we do on our podcast: Dyslexia Explored I’m really excited to do an in depth book review of The Dyslexic Advantage by Brock L. Eide, M.D., and Fernette F. Eide, M.D. This book is highly recommended and really powerful and affirming. I’m going dig deep into ‘The Dyslexic Advantage‘ with one podcast episode per chapter where I’ll review the content and share my experiences.
“The Dyslexic Advantage” is one of the most highly recommended books on dyslexia for good reason. For example, just over two years ago I read only five selected chapters of the book and it significantly contributed to inspiring the motivation behind creating the mission and company of ‘BulletMap™ Studio‘. My wife and I were inspired to find a way to systematically teach dyslexic teens and entrepreneurs to use mind mapping as a tool that can be used to find creative order out of chaotic thoughts. The insights from the book helped me, as an adult, to identify and harness my dyslexic advantages and, as a teacher, to find methods to teach visual study skills effectively. This is just one example of how this book has catalysed new ways to recognise and harness people’s creative gifts.
This is a well known book and I meet a lot of people who are planning to read it. My hope is that these podcast episodes will help you find a chapter to get stuck into and find valuable knowledge and inspiration.
We’d really love to hear from you so please take a moment to share your thoughts or any ways we could help you on your journey with dyslexia.
