How to Mind Map : Going Deeper into the 5 Basics

Do you want to learn how to mind map? This video will help you to learn and understand what mind mapping is and how to use the five basics in drawing a mind map.

What is Mindmapping?

Mind mapping is a visual way of taking notes. Mind mapping is ideal for visual thinkers, dyslexics, people studying for exams, and teenagers studying and learning how to learn and remember lots of information.
In drawing a mind map, it is recommended to use the five basics:  A central image, curving branches, keywords, colour and images.

Central Image

The central image represents the main topic or phrase to focus in on and it is crucial to your mind map. It is written or drawn at the centre of the page, with your topic title written out beside it.

Curving Branches

The idea of curving branches is that they maintain the flow of information and makes your mind map attractive to your eye as engage you in it. It goes underneath the words to support them and keep them close.

Keywords

Keywords are used to unpack sentences and unlock the meaning inside of them. They are written down in order of importance and detail. Important keywords towards the centre, detail towards the edge.

Colour & Images

Colour is important in the mind map and we use one colour for each branch to demonstrate the progression of information. We use simple, symbolic images for landmark ideas and facts.

It’s also important to know that there are three types of mind map for different uses: a spider map, a mind map, and a memory map.
